Lakeview library mural
Our Executive Board spearheaded the first-ever mural on city owned property in the Town. We chose the Lakeview Library because the branch played such a big part in our founder’s kids early years. The library also acts as the backdrop to our new finish line and festival venue. We worked closely with the amazingly talented artists @ The Illuminaries, to design and install the mural and Flax Art for all our supplies. Special thanks to Oakland Public Library, Public Art Committee & Cultural Affairs, Mayor Schaaf’s Office, Visit Oakland, Flax Art and Abio Properties for the support.

Dragon School & FLAX ART
From day 1, we set out to partner with local artists to create custom start/finish banners, mile markers and festival photo backdrops from scratch each year. We provide grants to Dragon School and they select young artists to collaborate with us and develop unique pieces for our events. Learn more about Dragon School.
Running for a Better Oakland
We work closely with RBO’s year round program by providing grants for their students to run in our partner events to encourage K-12 students from Oakland schools and develop healthy lifestyles through running. Paired with run mentors from the community, students learn to build confidence and set goals while training for races from 5k to half marathon distances. Our impact helps them direct funds typically used on race entries to more staff and student resources.
